An umbrella company is a company that employs agency contractors who work on temporary contract assignments. They will usually charge a small fee and arrange all your deductions ( tax and national insurance). Please let us know should you need us to put you in contact with a reliable umbrella company.
When setting up a LTD you will be responsible for your own tax and NI. There is usually a cost for setting one up and closing it down. It is best practice to have an accountant set one up and run it all for you. If you are thinking of setting up a LTD please remember that IR35 legislation is on the horizon so please ensure you have seeked advise on the best solution for you as a Locum.
A person is self-employed if they run their business for themselves and take responsibility for its success or failure. Self-employed workers aren’t paid through PAYE, and they don’t have the employment rights and responsibilities of employees. JR Veterinary are able to work with Locums who are set up as Self-employed however there are a few practices who are unable to. If you would like to work with any clients who aren’t able to work with self-employed Locums you will need to set up a different payment method for the work you do with them.
We are also able to accommodate you should you wish to be paid PAYE. Please speak to any of our consultants should you need any further assistance or advice. All Vets and RVN’s need to be registered with the RCVS to practice as either of these titles. Please remember if you are not a resident of the UK you will need to be registered with the RCVS ( Vets and RVN’s) and will need the right to work here. JR Veterinary will always seek proof of ID, registration details and right to work before working with you.
